Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers are critical to improving the health and wellbeing of their people. They bring unique cultural skills and play a vital role that spans clinical intervention, health promotion and community outreach and liaison.
This multimedia package, developed by the Foundation and funded by Health Workforce Australia, an Australian Government Initiative, will showcase, inform and educate all health professionals on the role and function of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers. It will cultivate a greater understanding of their clinical skills and cultural knowledge, provide information about the national registration scheme and contribute to improved inter-professional relationships.

In developing the content for the audio/visual material, case examples of how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers provide health services in urban, rural and remote locations as well as in primary and tertiary health settings have been filmed. A number of profiles of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and interviews with key health professionals are also included.
Central themes for the material include: leadership, collaboration, respect and the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers as service providers in their own right.
