Scope

This program provides information on:

  • The incidence and prevalence of alcohol dependency in Australia, the findings of research conducted in Australia into alcohol dependency and the various treatment options.
  • Alcohol dependency: the international experience - an interview with an international expert, Professor Richard Schottenfeld.
  • Naltrexone: one element in a continuum of care for an alcohol dependent patient.
  • The link between alcohol dependency and issues such as co-morbidity and psychiatric disorders.
  • The role of the General Practitioner in assessing the alcohol-dependent patient and treatment options available to the GP: what a GP can manage and what should be referred.
  • Case studies that emphasise treatment options and the role of the health professional.
  • Resources & publications that are available to health professionals and consumers on treating and managing alcohol dependency.
