Foundation resources trained on August GPET convention

July 10, 2008

The Rural Health Education Foundation has targeted the 2008 General Practice Education and Training Convention as an opportunity to distribute free educational resources to Australia’s GP training providers.

Maurie O’Connor, the Foundation’s Senior Project Manager for Education, along with Foundation Promotions Manager Clair North, will head the Foundation’s presence at the convention, which takes place at the Novotel Northbeach in Wollongong, NSW, on August 27 & 28.

“Our involvement in the GPET Convention is a great opportunity to further strengthen the Foundation’s relationship with the people who design and deliver vocational education and support services to GPs in rural and remote Australia,” says Don Perlgut, the Foundation’s CEO. “We invite all training providers to visit our booth on August 27 & 28 to have a chat and to sample some of our educational material.”

Foundation education services

The Rural Health Education Foundation produces and distributes hundreds of distance education programs for general practitioners and other health professionals working in rural and remote Australia, using digital satellite broadcasts, DVDs, VHS videos, and Internet webstreams and podcasts.

About the convention

The theme of the 2008 GPET Convention is “Further, Higher, Stronger - Achieving a personal best through teamwork“, based on the spirit of the Olympic Games.

The convention program (PDF, 357kb) this year also covers four sub-themes:

  • Registrars as teachers.
  • Recruitment to general practice.
  • What are we training for - general practice in the future.
  • Coaching for a personal best.

Each of these will be explored through symposia, which will aim to involve the entire convention audience in discussion of the important issues facing general practice education and training, in developing ways forward, and in endeavouring to achieve the best possible outcomes in the years ahead.
