Foundation keeps Drug Action Week in mind

May 20, 2010

The Rural Health Education Foundation will show a Community Service Announcement about Drug Action Week 2010 prior to its satellite television broadcasts on May 25th, June 8th and June 15th.

As part of its support for the annual Drug Action Week, which in 2010 has the theme “Looking After Your Mind”, the Foundation will air the video promotion at 7.55pm, five minutes before its 8.00pm (AEST) broadcasts of:

About Drug Action Week 2010

Running from June 20-26, Drug Action Week is a week of activities held nationally to raise awareness about alcohol and other drugs (AOD) issues in Australia. The week also highlights the achievements of the dedicated individuals who work within the AOD sector to reduce alcohol and drug-related harm.
Drug Action Week 2010 is an initiative of the Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA), providing individuals, organisations, and communities with the opportunity to promote awareness of alcohol and other drugs.

Each year, a diverse range of voices including State/ Territory AOD organisations, non-government organisations, community groups, the education sector, and the media join ADCA to speak out about alcohol and other drug-related issues.

Foundation continues strategic partnership

“The Foundation is proud to continue as a strategic partner of Drug Action Week for a second year,” says Rural Health Education Foundation CEO Don Perlgut.  “It’s a pleasure to be able to employ our satellite broadcast network to support and build awareness of such a positive initiative.”

“The Foundation has produced dozens of educational programs which address drug and mental health issues, so this year’s Drug Action Week theme of looking after your mind is very pertinent to our own activities,” Mr Perlgut says.

How you can take action

This year the ADCA expects hundreds of Drug Action Week activities to be held in cities, towns and very remote areas of Australia.  The ADCA is keen to hear from people who are interested in organising a Drug Action Week activity, such as an information booth in a shopping centre, an art competition, a seminar, a picnic, or anything else you can think of.  There are tools for registering and planning your activity on the Drug Action Week website.

Foundation programs about drugs and mental health

Rural Health Education Foundation has produced nine educational television programs which address alcohol and drug issues, and 30 programs which address mental health issues.  For details, visit the Alcohol and Drug section and the Mental Health section of the Foundation’s website, or contact the Foundation.
