Diabetes Channel features type 2 diabetes guidelines

October 27, 2009

Rural Health Education Foundation CEO, Don Perlgut, is now on the Diabetes Channel, talking about the Foundation’s current educational program series covering the treatment and management of type 2 diabetes.

Mr Perlgut appears in an on-demand video on the DiabetesChannel.com.au website, where he discusses the Foundation’s T2DM Guideline Series, a series of four educational television programs - aimed at health and medical practitioners in rural and remote Australia - which communicate the changes in new National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Guidelines for the treatment and management of type 2 diabetes.

“The Diabetes Channel is good news for the diabetes community, and we are delighted to be able to contribute to it,” says Don Perlgut. “It’s a new opportunity to spread awareness of the Foundation’s many diabetes-related programs to a wider audience.”

“Since up to 60% of type 2 diabetes cases can be prevented, the Diabetes Channel has great potential to improve diabetic patient outcomes by providing at-risk people and their health practitioners with convenient access to the latest information,” Mr Perlgut says.

About the Diabetes Channel

The Diabetes Channel is Australia’s first diabetes web-streaming network, providing on-demand videos about diabetes, its management and the prevention of type 2 diabetes. The online videos are aimed at people with diabetes, their carers and those at risk.

Developed by Diabetes Australia-NSW, the Diabetes Channel is produced and hosted by credentialled diabetes educators, accredited practicing dietitians and accredited exercise physiologists.

About the T2DM Guideline Series

The Foundation’s four-part T2DM Guideline Series focuses on the key practice points and goals for management of T2DM presented in the Guidelines to assist clinicians, health services and policy makers.

Two guidelines are outlined in each program, with the final program specifically focusing on Indigenous Australians.

The four programs that make up the series are:
