Foundation adds Drug Action Week 2009 promo to May 26 cannabis broadcast
May 19, 2009
The Rural Health Education Foundation will show a Community Service Announcement about Drug Action Week prior to its cannabis intervention broadcast on Tuesday 26th May.
As part of its support for Drug Action Week 2009, the Foundation will air the promotion in the lead-up to its 8.00pm (AEST) broadcast of Mulling It Over: Cannabis Intervention in Primary Health Care, a new hour-long program which explores the role of primary health care professionals in rural practice and the issues they face in dealing with cannabis use.
About Drug Action Week
Running from June 21-27, Drug Action Week is a week of activities held nationally to raise awareness about alcohol and other drugs (AOD) issues in Australia. The week also highlights the achievements of the dedicated individuals who work within the AOD sector to reduce alcohol and drug-related harm.
Drug Action Week 2009 is an initiative of the Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA), providing individuals, organisations, and communities with the opportunity to promote awareness of alcohol and other drugs.
Each year, a diverse range of voices including State/ Territory AOD organisations, non-government organisations, community groups, the education sector, and the media join ADCA to speak out about alcohol and other drug-related issues.
Foundation commits to strategic partnership
“The Foundation is proud to be a strategic partner of Drug Action Week 2009,” says Rural Health Education Foundation CEO Don Perlgut. “We’re very happy to be able to use our satellite broadcast network to spread awareness of this important, community-focused initiative.”
“A key message of Drug Action Week is that alcohol, although legal, is a drug too – our most popular drug,” Mr Perlgut says. “So it’s somewhat fitting that our on-air promotion for this year’s event precedes our new program on cannabis, which is Australia’s most widely used – and least disapproved of – illegal drug.”
How you can take action
This year the ADCA expects more than 600 Drug Action Week activities to be held in cities, towns and very remote areas of Australia.
The ADCA is keen to hear from people who are interested in organizing a Drug Action Week activity, such as an information booth in a shopping centre, an art competition, a seminar, a picnic, or anything else you can think of.
There are tools for registering and planning your activity on the Drug Action Week website.
