Foundation staff Cairns-bound for May rural health conference
April 14, 2009
The Rural Health Education Foundation will have a strong presence at the National Rural Health Conference in Cairns from Sunday May 17, with senior staff on hand to manage an exhibition booth and make a video presentation on trauma recovery.
Foundation CEO Don Perlgut, Deputy CEO Amanda Little and Communications Manager Clair North will represent the Foundation at the 10th National Rural Health Conference, held over four days from 17-20 May 2009 at the Cairns Convention Centre in Cairns, North Queensland.
Trauma program video presentation
In addition to serving at the Foundation’s exhibition booth, Ms Little, who is also the Foundation’s Director of Education, will present a special premiere screening of a half-hour educational program entitled Recovery From Trauma: What Works on Tuesday May 19.
Amanda will introduce the half-hour program and explain how it complements another recently completed Foundation resource: Australian Guidelines for the Treatment of Adults with Acute Stress Disorder and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.
Open invitation to all visitors
“We’re delighted to continue our association with the National Rural Health Alliance (NRHA) at their showcase event,” says Rural Health Education Foundation CEO Don Perlgut. “It’s an ideal opportunity to gather feedback on our activities, and to inform people as to how the Foundation can deliver valuable medical educational materials free of charge.”
“Everyone is welcome to visit us at our booth - we always look forward to meeting current and potential program users in person,” Mr Perlgut says. “And, as usual, we’ll have plenty of sample DVD copies of our health education and training programs.”
Don, Amanda and Clair will also be available to talk to anyone interested in establishing a new satellite viewing site in their clinic, hospital, health service or home.
About the conference
This year marks the fourth time the Rural Health Education Foundation has participated in this important event, having exhibited at previous National Rural Health Conferences in Albury in March 2007, Alice Springs in March 2005 and Canberra in March 2001.
The main focus of the conference, which is staged by the National Rural Health Alliance, is on those who are involved in rural, regional and remote health every day: the consumers, clinicians and managers in non-metropolitan areas. But participants will also come from other sectors that contribute to the health of people in country Australia.
Themes of the conference include:
• Conquering Indigenous disadvantage and bringing health equity to the people of rural and remote areas.
• Constructing a resilient response to political and environmental climates.
• Consulting our communities on health.
• Collaborating in health care teams and on service models that work.
• Celebrating the sector.
