Foundation to air alcohol message ahead of Drug Action Week
April 9, 2008Drug Action Week 08, with the theme Alcohol is a Drug Too, spans June 22-28, when the ADCA will work particularly hard to bring the issues of harm from the misuse of alcohol and other drugs to light.
“The issue of binge drinking is certainly on the agenda and with the help of organisations such as the Rural Health Education Foundation we can ensure that communities across the nation join in this important debate,” said ADCA CEO David Templeman.
Rural Health Education Foundation CEO Don Perlgut noted that messages tackling alcohol-related issues are of particular importance to the Foundation’s rural and remote stakeholders.
“Physical isolation can be an additional contributing factor for individuals who may be susceptible to alcohol abuse,” Mr Perlgut said. “So we welcome the opportunity to help spread ADCA’s message across remote Australia in the lead-up to Drug Action Week this year.”

According to ADCA, alcohol is responsible for the deaths of more young people under 35 than any other drug.
The Rural Health Education Foundation has produced a number of programs dealing with the abuse of alcohol, including Drinking for Two? and Prevention and Treatment of Alcohol Problems.
