New rural communities development collaboration with the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal

December 1, 2006

The Rural Health Education Foundation is pleased to announce an important new partnership with the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR).

The Foundation and FRRR will be working together to enable additional rural and remote health and medical organisations to join the Foundation’s satellite network and view the foundation’s health and medical educational television programs.

The satellite network now comprises more than 650 volunteer-run sites Australia-wide.  It enables health and medical professionals to participate in key professional development and to keep vital skills up to date without having to leave their families, clients and the communities who rely on them.

“The Rural health Education Foundation’s collaboration with FRRR will harness the energy of rural and regional communities to improve professional development opportunities for rural health and medical professionals by developing rural communities’ health communications infrastructure,” said Don Perlgut, CEO, Rural Health Education Foundation.  “This unique collaboration with FRRR will complement the grant made by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing to install new sites in some of the remotest regions of Australia,” Mr Perlgut added.

The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal’s vision is to support communities to respond positively to change and build social and economic wealth in rural and regional Australia.  The provision of the $50,000 grant will enable the expansion of the satellite network to up to 30 more remote communities.  “To ensure health professionals participate in up to date professional development is an important issue to FRRR, in seeking to ensure quality services are available to those living in rural and remote Australia” said Sylvia Admans, FRRR CEO.

Relevant rural health and medical organisations are encouraged to apply to become a FRRR subsidised Rural Health Education Foundation satellite network site
