Foundation extends satellite reach across Queensland

August 29, 2006

The Rural Health Education Foundation has added seven new receiving sites to its satellite network in Queensland, expanding the number of viewing sites in the state to 147.

The new sites, a mixture of aged care homes and Queensland Health facilities, are in Charters Towers, Kippa Ring, Kirwan, Rockhampton, Rockhampton North, Toowoomba and Wondai.

“The recent growth of our satellite network in Queensland has been remarkable,” said Foundation CEO Don Perlgut. “So it was quite fitting that our landmark 600th installation was a Queensland site - the Wuchopperen Health Service located in Cairns.”

“We now have 619 viewing sites in our network, including some of Australia’s most remote communities,” Mr Perlgut said.

Subsidies available

Subsidies are again available to rural and remote health and medical organisations which wish to join the network.  The funding has been provided by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

Relevant organisations are encouraged to apply.
