Foundation joins Philanthropy Australia

April 18, 2006

The Rural Health Education Foundation has joined Philanthropy Australia, the national membership body for the philanthropic sector with more than 150 trusts, foundations and corporate giving programs uniting to advance philanthropy and improve community wellbeing in Australia (see list of members).

“Improving the health and wellbeing of rural and remote Australians is the Foundation’s reason for being”, says Rural Health Education Foundation CEO Don Perlgut. “By joining Philanthropy Australia, the Rural Health Education Foundation taps into a wealth of expertise to further advance its mission.  Becoming more involved with like-minded civil sector organisations will help the Foundation to do its job better.”

Building new alliances

“By alerting other trusts, foundations and corporate giving programs to the good work we do, we can build new alliances designed to expand the reach of existing community development programs”, says Mr Perlgut. “I want to offer the Foundation’s unique complementary skills to new partners to create new initiatives.”

Potential for new funding sources

The Foundation is also keen to tap into new sources of funding that will enable it to expand.

“We are currently broadcasting more than twenty continuing medical education (CME) television programs per year that save and change lives in communities in every state and territory across Australia”, says Mr Perlgut. “Over the Foundation’s fourteen years of existence, it has developed unmatched expertise.  It’s time to do more.”

With a growing network of more than 600 satellite receiving sites Australia-wide, the Rural Health Education Foundation is the health and medical education lifeline to the bush.

It is a non-profit, tax exempt charitable organisation: gifts to the Foundation of $2 and more are tax deductible.
