Cervical cancer screening program to air March 14

The Rural Health Education Foundation will air a new program about changes to cervical cancer screening on March 14.

Cervical Cancer Screening is Changing: What You Need to Know will be broadcast live across the Foundation’s national satellite network at 8pm Sydney time on Tuesday 14 March, and again at 1.30pm on Friday 17 March.

The 90 minute program will be introduced by Professor Ian Frazer, Head of the University of Queensland Centre for Immunology and Cancer Reseach, and 2006 Australian of the Year.

About the program

The program focuses on the changes to clinical management outlined in the new NHMRC Guidelines for the Management of Asymptomatic Women with Screen Detected Abnormalities.

Issues covered include:

  • Revised management recommendations for women presenting with various abnormalities.
  • The new terminology for cervical cytology reporting in Australia.
  • The recommended rigorous safety monitoring and referral pathways.
  • The need for monitoring, supportive care and follow up for affected patients.

The program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.
