Infectious disease control program returns April 26

February 2, 2006

The Rural Health Education Foundation has continued its commitment to infectious disease education by scheduling its highly regarded Infectious Diseases: Management and Control program for re-broadcast on Wednesday April 26.

“In light of the recent debate over the possibility of a new flu pandemic, we believe this broadcast will serve as a useful touchpoint for Australia’s rural and remote health professionals,” said Don Perlgut, CEO of the Rural Health Education Foundation, in Sydney today.

Over the past five years the Foundation has produced and distributed a range of programs focused on communicable diseases and infection control, including:

  • Immunisation Update
  • Talking Together - Contemporary Issues in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health: HIV, Hepatitis and Sexual Health
  • Hepatitis C: An Update on Testing, Treatment and Management

Infectious Diseases: Management and Control looks at the management and control of infectious diseases, including practical advice for health professionals living and working in rural hospitals and local practices.

The broadcast’s expert panel includes Professor Aileen Plant (Centre for International Health, Curtin University), Dr Mike Whitby (Infection Management Services, Princess Alexandra Hospital), Emeritus Professor Peter McDonald (Chair of the Review of the Infection Control Guidelines) and Dr Sue Page (President of the Rural Doctors Association of Australia).

For full program details and biographies of the panellists, along with links to other infectious disease educational resources, visit the program summary page.

In addition to the April 26 broadcast on the Foundation’s Australia-wide satellite network, the program can be viewed online via webstreaming, and is available for purchase on DVD and VHS video (program #403).
