Foundation program assists in the launch of National Diabetes Action Program
June 17, 2005The Rural Health Education Foundation’s popular program Taking Action to Prevent Diabetes will be re-broadcast to assist in the launch of Diabetes Australia’s National Diabetes Action Program - Don’t Ignore Diabetes. The program is introduced by the Hon. Tony Abbott, MHR, Minister for Health and Ageing.
Prior to the program there will be a special message from Greg Johnson, Chief Executive, Diabetes Australia Victoria, about the 2005 National Diabetes Action Program. “Don’t Ignore Diabetes is an evidence-based campaign that aims to increase awareness of diabetes as a serious medical condition, something our research indicates is not well understood by the majority of Australians” says Greg. He continues in saying “Understanding the seriousness of diabetes is important if people are to take further action, for example assessing their personal risk or seeking advice from health professionals.”
The Foundation program will also show the television commercial developed for the DID campaign.
Resources including the Foundation program Taking Action to Prevent Diabetes are available for use by health professionals to assist in increasing community understanding of some of the potential complications of diabetes and also the risk factors for type 2 diabetes.
The 75 minute program will air on the Foundation’s satellite network at 8pm Sydney time on Tuesday 12 July, and again at 12.30pm on Friday 15 July.
The July 2005 re-broadcasts of the program have been sponsored by Diabetes Australia, during National Diabetes Week, as part of the National Diabetes Action Program. To obtain further information about the DID campaign and the NDAP, please call 1300 136 588.
